Get ready to drop back in. Released yesterday, the Season 05 update, code-named Shadow Protocol, aims to completely shake up the competitive meta just ahead of the late-summer tournament cycle. Whether you are grinding ranked multiplayer or surviving the undead hordes, here is a breakdown of the most significant changes introduced in the latest patch.
Weapon Balancing | The Reign of the XM-F is Over
For the past two months, the XM-F Assault Rifle has absolutely dominated standard multiplayer and Warzone lobbies thanks to its virtually non-existent recoil and high damage range. With the Season 05 patch, Treyarch is finally bringing it back down to earth.
| Weapon Class | Change in Season 05 |
|---|---|
XM-F (Assault Rifle)NERFED | Max damage range reduced by 15%. Horizontal recoil significantly increased during sustained fire. |
Krig-7 (Assault Rifle)BUFFED | Minor buff to ADS speed to improve competitiveness in mid-range engagements. |
Viper-9 (SMG)BUFFED | Headshot multiplier increased. Sprint-to-fire time decreased by 5%. Now the premier choice for aggressive run-and-gun. |
Trench Sweeper (Shotgun)ADJUSTED | Pellets-to-kill ratio adjusted at max range. One-shot kills now capped at 12 meters. |
Multiplayer Content | Firing Range Returns
The Season 05 update injects some much-needed variety into the 6v6 map pool. Players can now deploy to Rooftops, a brand-new, vertically focused map set across three interconnected skyscrapers in downtown Dubai. Ziplines and glass skylights make this a chaotic, fast-paced environment that favors close-quarters combat.
For veteran fans, Treyarch has also dropped a visually overhauled remaster of the legendary Firing Range. This classic map has been updated with modern lighting and environmental destruction, but the iconic layout remains entirely untouched. Furthermore, the fan-favorite objective mode, Demolition, has officially returned to the standard Quick Play playlist.
Zombies | Enter Outpost Omega
The biggest highlight of Season 05 is a massive content drop for the Zombies community.
Following the cliffhanger ending of the Season 03 Easter Egg, the Requiem crew has been transported to Outpost Omega, a frozen, abandoned Soviet research facility buried deep in the Siberian tundra. This is a traditional, round-based Zombies map featuring returning mechanics like the Ray Gun Mark IV, a brand-new Cryo-Freeze perk machine, and a terrifying new boss enemy known as the Frostborn Elite.
The patch also introduces new stability fixes for Zombies matchmaking and resolves an exploit where players could glitch outside of the map boundaries using the Aether Shroud field upgrade.
The Black Ops 7 Season 05 update is currently live across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
