Electronic Arts and DICE have rolled out Game Update 1.4.2.0 for Battlefield 6, officially launching Phase 2 of Season 4. Serving as the franchise's most elaborate seasonal event to date, this massive update features a fully licensed Top Gun crossover developed in partnership with Paramount Games Studio.
For players who have not yet jumped into Battlefield 6, EA is hosting a Free Trial Week running through today, August 25, 2026, across all platforms. This free period notably overlaps with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta weekend, seemingly as a direct challenge to the rival shooter.
Famous Faces and New Jets
This is not a simple cosmetic-only collaboration. EA has brought three fan-favorite characters from 2022's Top Gun: Maverick into the game as playable characters, fully voiced by their original actors:
| Top Gun Character | Voiced By |
|---|---|
Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw | Miles Teller |
Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd | Lewis Pullman |
Adm. Solomon "Warlock" Bates | Charles Parnell |
The update also heavily emphasizes aerial combat, introducing two brand-new, two-seat fighter jets. The F/A-81F Super Spectre is built for aerial superiority and precision strikes. Meanwhile, the F-74A Seacat, which is heavily inspired by the iconic F-14 Tomcat, features variable-sweep wings that adjust mid-flight for a distinct blend of speed and maneuverability.
To help players manage these new machines, jet handling has received a significant overhaul. The update introduces improved landing gear physics and a new Airplane Control Assist option to help guide aircraft and automatically manage pitch and roll.
New Modes and the Return of Wake Island
The centerpiece of the update is Carrier Strike, a brand-new game mode debuting during the collaboration. Functioning as a reimagining of Battlefield 2142's iconic Titan mode, Carrier Strike pits infantry, naval, and aviation squads against one another to break enemy lines, defend their own aircraft carrier, and destroy the opposing one from the inside.
For those who want to focus purely on aerial dogfights, the update introduces Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep. Available in the free-to-play Battlefield REDSEC, this jets-only mode requires squads of two to pilot the new aircraft in high-intensity aerial battles while alternating between destroying ground targets and shooting down rival players.
The update also brings back one of the franchise's most iconic battlegrounds: Wake Island. The fan-favorite Pacific map has been fully rebuilt for Battlefield 6, delivering large-scale combined-arms combat across its beaches, bunkers, and surrounding waters.
Additionally, ground forces are receiving a new toy: the Interdictor. Unlocked through the Battle Pass, this is described as the longest-range sniper rifle in the game, specifically designed for extreme-distance engagements, such as picking off pilots directly out of their cockpits.
