Crimson Desert is an upcoming open-world action RPG developed by Pearl Abyss, the South Korean studio behind Black Desert Online. First announced in December 2020, Crimson Desert was originally conceived as a prequel to Black Desert but evolved into a standalone single-player narrative experience set in the war-torn continent of Pywel.

The game follows Kliff Greymanes, the leader of a mercenary band navigating political intrigue, monster-infested wilderness, and large-scale battles. Pearl Abyss describes Crimson Desert as "the ultimate medieval fantasy epic," blending story-driven quests with emergent sandbox gameplay.

As of July 2026, Pearl Abyss has not announced a firm release date, but industry sources suggest a Q4 2026 launch window targeting PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game has been in development for over six years with a team of 300+ developers.

Crimson Desert is set on the continent of Pywel, a high-fantasy world inspired by medieval Europe and Korean historical epics. The story follows Kliff Greymanes, a former knight turned mercenary leader, as he leads his ragtag company through a continent fractured by war.
